Lightning from Final Fantasy XII

Today I would like to discuss a non interactive gaming style. That style is what I like to call observational gaming (OG). Never heard of this term right, sounds all kind of wrong right? Before ya’ll freak out I’ll explain. Observational gaming is fully enjoying a game for all its awesome without having to actually play. Now this type of gaming is perfect for couples where one person is a gamer and the other is so not. This style solves the really big issue of the game system causing your partner to feel like the third wheel in their own relationship. And that is no fun for anybody now is it?

Snake From Metal Gear Solid 4

Now games that work really well for this type of game style are ones with an excellent plot, beautiful graphics, and rocking cut scenes. Some examples of games that fit this style would be like the “Final Fantasy” franchise because it’s really eye catching and sometimes has a decent story. ” Assassins Creed” for it’s historical accuracy (minus the hay pile issue. Grr Argh!), visually it is stunning, the assassins have amazing costumes, and the story flows very well throughout the series.  And finally “Metal Gear Solid”  especially the most recent one; because it is gritty, realistic, and you really feel for Snake in all that he does that the  OG actually wants to help the active gamer (AG) achieve there objectives, this game is that appealing (at least for me anyway.)

Aveline From Assassins Creed 3- Liberation on PS Vita. I chose her cause I so do not think that it’s right to mitgate the black female to the smaller platform. And Alex says Damn Right!

Other games that are also good for OG’s are the Uncharted series, according to Alex it’s like watching your AG play an Indiana Jones movie and the Star Wars game for the Kinect while a little tipsy is also fun to OG.

Well that is a brief summary of OG style and some games to try it out on. So have fun and get observing!

“Live Long and Prosper in the Force of Rock on Awesome!”

Wow! That is all I can say about the insane amount of information to pour over regarding E3. So many new games are coming out that it is crazy to try and keep track of them all. In the last post I covered most of the ones I will be getting, and now is the lineup of the final few that have grabbed my attention.

Monolith and WB Games have put an interesting spin on the MOBA genre. For those that know the game League of Legends, picture that game play then add in the Lord of the Rings characters. I have enjoyed the MOBA style game play, but the mode that really is going to interest me on this one is the 1 lane map that will be coming with it. I have always wanted to play in a match where you have all 5 champions in one lane beating on each other in awesome full on brawls. Who wouldn’t want the chance to play a game as Gandalf and smack Sauron or Gollum around.

For those Mortal Combat fans WB Games and NetherRealm Studios have created Injustice: Gods Among Us. The game has the Mortal Combat style of fighting, but using DC super heroes and villains. The most interesting thing that sets this game apart from others of its genre is the ability to interact with the environment during the fighting. Who wouldn’t want to kick their nemesis through a building and watch him bounce off things on his journey? I will definitely be enjoying this game on those days when I just feel like smashing things.

For Transformers fans like myself we will soon get to whet our robot appetites on Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, a new game from High Moon Studios. As a fan of the original cartoon, this is one game I am really looking forward to getting my hands on. The game play style is similar to the first game Transformers: War for Cybertron. This time we get the added awesomeness of being able to play as Grimlock, the Dynobot. There is so much good information on this game, but I will let the videos speak for themselves. I also personally can not wait to customize my own Autobot when this hits the shelves.

Another game that has me giddy as hell is Mechwarrior Online. I have been a fan for years, back when Mechwarrior was called Battletech and we were playing it on paper maps on the kitchen table. Mechwarrior fanatics have been waiting on a new game for 10 years, and this one looks to make up for that time. I do appreciate that they put the games timeline before the Clan invasion. While I do like the clan mechs and storyline, I am looking forward to a huge wave of nostalgia when I get in my first “old school” mech. Unfortunately for me my favorite mechs were the ones that the board game creators took from the Robotech line, so I am sure I will not be seeing any of those in this game. Congrats also to Piranha Games on getting Best of E3.

Well that is all from us on E3. Yes we didn’t cover everything, but these were the things we were most excited about that came out this year. Now the fun part of setting money aside and figuring out which ones we want more then others.

E3 Day One

So like a lot of gamers right now like  I am, are  soaking up all the awesome new stuff coming out of the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 as it is otherwise known. There are so many amazing games coming out that it is going to be difficult to prioritize which ones to buy. Since it would take weeks to cover everything going on at the expo, we are only covering those things that are interesting to us, it is our blog after all.

First up on the list is The Last Of Us, the game created by Naughty Dog Studios the designers of the Uncharted franchise. Instead of treasure hunting this game is based in a post apocalyptic world where a new fungi has been killing people and reanimating their corpses. The United States is under martial law and the military is keeping everyone uninfected in the quarantine zone. You play as Joel, a black market dealer who has agreed to watch over a girl named Ellie after leaving the quarantine zone. The style of game play is very similar to the Uncharted series, so any fans of Uncharted should feel right at home. The graphic design of the game is simply beautiful, and watching the video I could not tell whether I was watching a cut scene or actual game play. This game will definitely be on the top of my want list this year.

Next up is Star Wars 1313, the new game from Lucasarts. It is a third person shooter, where you play a bounty hunter fighting in the deep levels of Coruscant. This will be the first Star Wars game with a mature rating, and there will also be no force powers. That’s right no playing a Jedi in this one. While this does sadden me slightly because I love lightsaber combat, I am still really looking forward to this game. The graphics are amazing and it appears there is a flawless transition from cinematic to game play. As a big fan of Star Wars I can not wait for this one to hit the shelves.

Watch Dogs from Ubisoft is next on my list. From what I have seen so far the game looks like Grand Theft Auto plus the ability to hack many things in the environment. This new spin makes the computer geek in me very happy.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 from Treyarch, need I say more? This franchise has only managed to get better with every new incarnation. The story in single player is always amazing and the multiplayer never ceases to entertain. I also like the modern style to the weapons and gadgets that the demo has showed so far. I hope we get the C-130 gunship in this version. Not much can beat firing a Howitzer from an airplane.

Also we are finally getting a new chapter in the Halo saga with Halo 4. I have greatly enjoyed this series all the way back to the first game. Great story line for single player and the mulitplayer just seems to suck you in for hours. Like many who have played it I am dying to continue the story with Master Chief and Cortana. I am also looking forward to both versus and co-op multiplayer. Character customization options for multiplayer look pretty extensive too. It is always nice to be able to put your own little flair into games you love to play.

Cinematic and game play footage

I have long been a fan of the Lego series of games. Putting an interesting humor twist to favorite titles like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, and Pirates of the Caribbean has endeared these games to me. This year at E3 we see two more titles coming out in the franchise. Lego Batman 2 and Lego Lord of the Rings. The game play style is the same as we already know and love, but one interesting thing this time around is the characters have actual voices this time instead of the mumbling we have seen so far. While that has never bothered me in the past games I appreciate the added effort to add  voice overs to the characters. I may pass on Batman 2 this time, although the lure of more DC superheros to play sounds awesome, but LOTR will definitely be getting added to the collection.

Lego Lord of the Rings

The last game for today that we will be covering is the new XCOM Enemy Unknown. I have played this series since the first game came out way back when. I have always enjoyed the turn based style game play this series has been famous for as well as the base building and squad outfitting. Set in the not so distant future earth is under attack by alien invaders. Your job as the commander of XCOM is to stop the invaders by hunting them down, dissecting their bodies and technology to use in Earths defense against the invaders. Created by Firaxis and 2K Games, the fine people who brought us Civilization 5, this game promises to be all kinds of awesome. I look forward to kicking the aliens off our planet when this one hits the shelves in October.

My husband the Red Panda is playing Assasins Creed: Revelations right now. I really love observing this game, but  I have one huge issue. Fracking piles of freakin hay will not save you from leap to your stupid doom jumps! I mean they are on the ground! YOU WOULD DIE! This hay business makes no sense at all!  No hay death, stabbed in the throat death, poison death, but a pile of fracking Hay
LIFE! WTF! My head hurts and my blood pressure is going up! Jeez!

So I have just started playing Fable III and it is awesome!! I know it’s an old one but I am an Otaku (anime geek for the un-educated) not a gamer. I much prefer staring mindlessly at my entertainment like it’s a porno mag then interact with like its my talks too much and breaks all my shit when it gets mad girlfriend! In other words I am a serious commitment phobe when it comes to my entertainment. But with Fable III I am becoming Edward Cullen, I am stalking it, I think about it all the time, I even watch it when it fracking sleeps! yeah, I am  a game creeper I think I need some sort of intervention and its only been one fracking day!!! I am sooooo fighting the urge to play this sleep depriving amazingness even as I type this rant/whine but it is so fantabulous that i am starting to feel like a starfleet crew on an awkward picnic with the Borg! Resistance is futile you will play volleyball!! STOP CALLING YOU FRACKING AWESOMNESS OF AWESOME! That’s it, I am going outside for a bit so that I no longer have to hear your sirens call!!

Diablo 3

Like many people on May 15th, I too was giddy to play the awesomeness that is Diablo 3. I also, like most people ran into the frustrating “could not connect to server” error that plagued most of launch day. This stemmed from Blizzards decision to store all characters on their servers and so require an internet connection to access them. While I can respect their decision to do this to prevent cheating on multiplayer games, I would still have preferred to have the option to have an offline character that I could play away from the

This aside, when I was able to play the game I was pleased with the experience. I am currently running a level 11 barbarian so I have not experienced much of the content. My initial thoughts are that Blizzard has done a great job with the latest installment. The graphics are awesome, especially the environment effects. Little added things like fog really add to the ambiance of the areas. The story so far has been pretty epic and I am always looking forward to seeing what comes next. It is also awesome that the characters all have voices and I am not required to read walls of text.

The game also has a crafting system which I will be checking out soon. So far I am really enjoying this game and look forward to what else it has in store for me.
